CREATING HAND-CARVED DIGITAL ILLUSTRATIONS Each linocut illustration begins with a drawing on linoleum or carving block. The image is hand-carved using traditional linocut tools. The next step the best part involves printing the linocut on paper to reveal its unique graphic quality. I use non-toxic water soluble inks for printing. The print is then scanned to create a digital file. Once the image is digitized it is enhanced using Photoshop and Illustrator. This technique allows me to play with colour, add text and fine-tune the illustration while maintaining its handmade character. I always include transparent background PNG files as well as Illustrator 10 EPS vector files.
