The enormous, standalone expansion for Total War: SHOGUN 2 provides gamers with a brand-new gaming experience. Six different playable clans are now available, including those aligned with the previous Shogun, such the Nagaoka, and those backing a contemporary imperial Japan, like the Satsuma. There are also three formidable foreign powers to contend with: The future of Japan is essential to the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. So how are you going to treat them? All of this takes place on an upgraded and expanded campaign map that includes new island provinces in the far north, brand-new construction and technology trees, and never-before-seen elements like railways and naval bombardments that have never before appeared in a Total War game. Gameplay This standalone extension, which takes place 300 years after the first game's events, concentrates on the clashes between the Imperialists and the Shogunists in the Tokugawa Shogunate's final years. The gameplay combines elements of the original game's predominant depiction of traditional Samurai society and this version's increased emphasis on the potency of modern weapons. As the entry of Western Powers will coincide with a civil war, which will determine a nation's fate, the player's overall goal is to lead ancient Japan into the contemporary era. The game has railways, which facilitate considerably faster unit movement in the campaign area. In the game, the Gatling gun is included. On the campaign map, enemy units can now be directly bombarded by ships and artillery. To resist such bombardment, coastal cannons can now be constructed. Since the expansion's ships now have steam engines, naval warfare and tactics have significantly changed from earlier games. The game uses a better Warscape engine for graphics, enhancing the Campaign Map and providing better water effects, among other things. Numerous performance enhancements have also been added to this engine version. Choose Your Sides The player has the option of playing on the Shogunate or Imperial side. There are five Imperial and five Shogunate clans to select from when the Fall of the Samurai DLC is considered. In the early (but not the latter) phases of the campaign, it is possible to change your clan's allegiance from the Shogunate to the Imperial or vice versa. In addition, the player can pick one of ten great domains that live in the various Japanese provinces. Each clan offers a different playing style due to its unique advantages in specific areas.
