The Second Wave: Pinay & Pinoy/1945-1960

The horrors of Bataan and hopes for the American Dream formed the emotional backdrop for the second wave of Filipino immigration to the United States. In this second installment in a three-volume series, Caridad Concepcion Vallangca continues the work of her late husband Roberto Vallangca by documenting and preserving this crucial but little-studied episode in American history. Vallangca, herself a second wave immigrant who served as a third lieutenant in the Philippine underground resistance army during WWII, brings personal insight and love to the telling of personal oral histories from fellow second wave immigrants. This second wave of immigration, unlike the first, included a significant number of women; this volume is especially powerful as an illumination of the Filipina immigrant experience.
