This book is about the first governor of Antequera, now known as the city of Oaxaca. This governor was named Juan Peliez de Berrio and he commisioned the first plan for the lay-0u( of the city. Before coming to the Valley of Oaxaca, he climbed the walls of a convent and absconded with Inesica, an indigenous noblewoman who was to become his companion. This story of villany, corruption, and death marked the birth of the city of Oaxaca, 475 years ago.
