Sewanee in Stone

SEWANEE IN STONE may be a work less of "architectural history" than artifact-based history." Sewanee, on the Cumberland Plateau, is the home of the University of the South. Sewanee's buildings are a strong expression of its mountain individualism. They don't adhere blindly to the Collegiate Gothic line. What ties the University's stylistic diversity together is its venerable tradition of sandstone cut and set by four or more generations of stone masons. This book aims to celebrate that art of fact.
