REZ PLZ is a puzzle/platformer game, developed by the independent studio, Long Neck Games in 2020 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game features a very unique gameplay mechanics. Unlike in any other video game, in REZ PLS players have to deliberately kill one of the characters in order to progress further. After death, the character may be resurrected, no matter the cause of his premature departure. The game features a characteristic, pixel graphics, and Japan-inspired characters design. Storyline The REZ PLZ tells the story of Arcan and Zepth, brothers studying in the school of wizards. The school has fallen under the control of the forces of evil. Brothers decide to do something about it and they embark on a dangerous quest, aiming to defeat the Dark Arcanum, represented by five, very powerful wizards. As neither Arcan nor Zepth is the best magic adepts, the might Scroll of Resurrection they have in their possession may become very helpful on this journey. Gameplay Mechanics The action of the game is presented in the side-view. REZ PLZ is a unique example of a puzzle platformer game in which players have to kill one of the characters to proceed. Death is one of the key mechanic gameplay mechanics. Very often, in order to get past some trap, it will be necessary to kill one of the brothers. However, death is just a temporary state thanks to the Scroll of Resurrection. In the game, players can die in many different ways, starting from burning alive, through falling down into a pit full of deadly spikes, and ending on getting cut in half. During the adventure, besides using the Scroll, Arcan and Zepth can learn new useful spells, that will help them on their quest. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the game offers both, single-player, and co-op experience. Reception The REZ PLZ received generally positive reviews. The players praised it for its unique mechanics, nice pixel graphics, and a big dose of dark humor. According to many, it will be a fine addition to the library of every indie games enthusiast.
