Andel Abang is one among many types of local red rice that is popular in Yogyakarta and Central Java. It is said that this rice was originated from Campa (West Coast of Indochina), brought to Java by Admiral Cheng Ho in the 14th century and have been adapted so well in Java that it can be cultivated three times per year compared to the one in Campa.
