According to Dr. Hirschfield s model, our psyche consists of three interrelated components : the ego, the Higher Power or God or Spirit, and our individual True Self which he calls I . The ego is the part we are most familiar with because it has largely taken control of our psyche, and over eons we have become addicted to it. The Higher Power is the Infinite Energy Being who created all of us as perfect, spiritual, energetic Souls and continues to give us Its unlimited goodness throughout eternity. The I is our True Individual Self who originally was the only inhabitant of our Soul, but at some point created an ego to individually identify each one of us more distinctly. In Part II of the book, Dr. Hirschfield delineates a path of transformation which leads to gradual, voluntary surrender of our ego toward the goal of recognizing our real identity as the True, Loving Self we have always been. For most of us, our True Self is eclipsed by our ego s mad masquerade.
