Musimatics: Unlocking the Math Mind with Music

Musimatics is presented as a multi-disciplinary subject that uses music as a vehicle for honing basic arithmetic principles. Certain operations are demonstrated on the keyboard, using melody and harmony. These operations include addition and subtraction, to show tonal movements. Also, set theory basics come into play, in deriving harmony. Graphs and functions are related to transposition of pieces from one scale to the next. The application of the base 2 numbering system in quantifying and classifying beats is highlighted. Some general ways in which Mathematics is inherent to Music are highlighted.
