Max

Liz's son Brent has been deployed to a dangerous place in the Middle East. Recently retired, Liz has promised Brent she will volunteer at Pam's animal shelter, and try not to worry about her boy while he's in harm's way. Then homeless Al rescues a dog he names Max from a gang of boys, and brings him to Pam's shelter. Liz is convinced no one will ever adopt the little terrier mix because of Max's standoffish attitude and homely appearance. But there's just something about Max that tugs at Liz's heartstrings. And when Brent confronts her via Skype, Liz has to admit it. She's a lot like Max, and that attitude has hindered her own relationships. Certainly she could have deeper friendships with her friends at Fast Paws Agility, at the shelter, and with Adelle,the young woman Liz thinks may have a feelings for her son. Change is hard.
