Markham Thorpe

When Ellen Braithwaite, a young housemaid, enters the declining Markham Thorpe, she realizes that the relationship between masters and servants is not quite as it should be - and that it is her cousin, the formidable Mrs Rundell, who is responsible. For Mrs Rundell seems to be taking over the house. Her masters appear powerless to stop her and her enemies are multiplying, there is apparently no limit to what she can do. And what is more, she has plans for Ellen.
