After many years of low-cost mass production, the Japanese have long since shifted the focus of their efforts to the developments of high-quality technical products. In many cases, the designs of the new generation serve as prototypes which may have only an indirect indfluence on later production. The examples presented in this book thus anticipate the design offensive to come from Japan.
