Heavenly Springs

Andrew Bonar was to devotional literature what his brother Horatius was to hymn-writing- a master of thoughtful meditation on God's word. There was poetry in his soul, but he had also come to see that 'prayer should be the main business of every day'. This was reflected in his life and ministry, as those who knew him, or heard him speak, recognized. He moved among men as one who lived in the presence of God. In Heavenly Springs, Marjory Bonar provides us with a glimpse into her father's heart and life- through extracts from his own diary, letters and sermons. The intention (and the effect) of her anthology is to bring the reader to the same 'living water' from which her father drank so deeply. Arranged as brief meditations for each Sunday of the year, Heavenly Springs is a treasure-trove of devotion to Christ. Andrew Bonar was minister at Collace, Perthshire and later at Finnieston, Glasgow. He was a prolific author. His works include Memoris and Remains of R.M. M'Cheyne, Letters of Samuel Rutherford, his own Diary and a Commentary on Leviticus, all published by the Trust.
