In the Guild Wars universe, Nightfall takes place on the continent of Elona. It follows the player's character as they join the Order of the Sunspears and learn about Warmarshal Varesh's desire to resurrect a long-forgotten god through an event known as Nightfall. The players, aided by their hero allies, battle civil war, ignorant Vabbi princes, and Varesh's demon allies in their attempt to prevent Nightfall. Gameplay Nightfall is a sequel to the Guild Wars series and thus adheres to the same gameplay principles. Previous Guild Wars releases attempted to marry Player versus Environment (or "PvE") and Player versus Player (or "PvP") gameplay, with PvP serving as the logical endgame for the Prophecies campaign and Factions, play optionally interspersed with PvP. Nightfall deviates from this because the plot is more PvE-focused than previous campaigns.
