The game takes place in the Land of Tyria with various races going around, people in trouble giving you missions, merchants, sellers, Auction Houses, and a complete MMORPG mechanic of trading. At the start of the game, you need to select from various Professions, Races, and Classes, which further paves your path in the game. But, you can have various characters playable on the same account, where you can share gear and inventory with each other.
