Even though sales were abruptly suspended after the Game's debut, Giana Sisters underwent a revamp in 2009, and it was made available on the Nintendo DS. With the most recent releases being Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and Giana Sisters: Dream Runners, Giana Sisters DS heralded the start of a new series of Giana Sisters games. Plot: The player assumes the role of Giana, a girl with a nightmare in which she journeys through 33 stages filled with monsters, collecting ominous diamonds and searching for her sister Maria. Giana is also regarded as "Gianna" in the scrollable intro and was the envisioned name until a typo was made on the album artwork. The Game makers just went with that instead of having the cover remade. Her sister will revive Giana if the player prevails in the decisive battle. In the 2D side-scrolling gameplay The Great Giana Sisters, the player can choose to control Maria or Giana. The Game lets two players play simultaneously, with the second player holding Maria. Several dream crystals are scattered around each Level, collecting awards points toward the Game's highest score. You can get an additional life by gathering 100 dream crystals. Hidden "Lollipop" goods can also be used to obtain extra lives. Once you have the necessary powerups, you can shoot or jump on enemies to defeat them. Some foes are owls, rolling eyes, flesh-eating fish, and poisonous insects. The "fire wheel" turns Giana into a rebel who can jump and smash rocks from below. Giana receives "dream bubbles," a single projectile discharged from the "lightning bolt." She can fire missiles that are recoiling thanks to her "double lightning" ability. She can fire homing shots thanks to "strawberries." The "water drop," a single protective item in-game, shields Giana from flames. Additionally, several unique things that impact can activate the entire screen, like the "clock," which freezes all foes on-screen, and the "magic bombs," which eliminate all adversaries.
