Elementary German

A third edition of Elementary German (originally written by Erika Meyer) has been undertaken, chiefly because the reading selection of the second edition are now outdated. Mush of the Germany described in them no longer exists. For that reason, the readings have been rewritten to deal with situations and problems of both West and East Germany, as well as Austria and Switzerland. A great variety of subjects (e.g., everyday living, politics, economics, geography, and the arts) has been treated, in order to give as complete a picture of the culture of German- speaking countries as is possible in a book short enough to be completed in one semester or two quarters.
