The Dell PowerEdge R720 server is built to run complex workloads using its highly scalable memory, I/O capacity and flexible network options. Designed to excel at running a wide range of virtualisation environments and applications for both mid-size and large enterprises, the 2U rack server is powered by the Intel Xeon E5 family of processors and supports up to eight 3.5 inch (LFF) drives totalling 32TB storage capacity. Dual CPU power The R720 server features dual six core Intel Xeon E5-2640 processors running at 2.50GHz, offering a combined processing power of 5.00GHz. The E5 series of processors were designed for architecting next-generation data centres and delivering versatility across diverse workloads, making them ideal for data-intense use. The server also comes with 64GB DDR3 memory, with the opportunity to upgrade to a maximum capacity of 768GB across 24 DIMM slots down the line. Optional hot-plug, front-access PCI-E SSDs (max. 4) enable performance enhancing in-box storage tiering, while the server is powered by twin Titanium efficiency (up to 96%) PSUs up to 1100W. Fast, flexible controllers The server comes fitted with a standard integrated network controller, but other NICs are available from Broadcom or Intel up to 2GbE. The PowerEdge H710 Mini RAID Controller (PERC) offers unrivalled I/O performance for database applications, achieving significant performance gains in hard-drive based server environments and taking full advantage of the unsurpassed performance and enterprise-class reliability of SSDs. Other connectivity is provided by seven PCI-E slots and two Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) links.
