Death's Darkest Face

In 1936 the poet, Hugo Headley, disappeared. In the 1960s the actor, Geoffrey Elder, comes to believe that his father was involved in the poet's disappearance. In 1979 Julian Symons, the novelist, receives a letter from Geoffrey's executors and the manuscript of his "investigations".
