Call of Duty Ghosts is a first-person shooter action game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the 6thcod game developed by IW, and 10th overall title in the series. Ghosts features a heavily emphasized multiplayer; with many modes the player can participate in including brand new Squads and Extinction mode. The game also includes a single-player campaign, with several playable characters: the game’s protagonist, Logan Walker, his father Elias, and Riley the Dog.Multiplayer modesLike many previous installments of the series, CoD: Ghosts features a robust multiplayer mode, with several staple match types and maps, as well as new additions. The mechanics of the multiplayer mode had been changed, with maps being environments the player can destroy. The multiplayer mode allows the player to rack up killstreaks, and upon reaching 25 of successful kills, the player can use KEM Strike, a nuke-like strike, which eliminates all enemy players on the map. Killstreaks and challenges completed by the player reward them with ODIN Streaks.Squads and ExtinctionGhosts introduces two new multiplayer modes: Squads and Extinction. The former places the player in a team of ten characters, with other members controlled by AI or other players. The team members can be fully customized. After creating their character, the player will be able to participate in several types of matches against AI or online opponents. In Squad vs. Squad match, the player’s squad faces off in a match against other player and their squad. In Wargame, the player and five of their teammates fight against a team of bots. Safeguard is a survival-like type of match, where the player’s team must fend off waves of enemies (20 in normal mode, 40 in Safeguard Extended and 100 in Safeguard Infinite).Extinction is a survival mode, where players face waves of alien creatures known as Cryptids. The player’s team is tasked with destroying the Cryptid hives located on the map. The classes available in the mode are Weapon Specialist, Tank, Engineer, and Medic. Each of the classes can be upgraded with XP points. The classes have customizable load-outs and special perks and abilities for the player to use during the match.Story CampaignThe story of Ghosts is set in a not too distant future. As a result of the nuclear destruction of the Middle-East, South American countries have become the sole supplier of oil. As a Federation of the Americas, these countries quickly grew into a new superpower and seized control over Central America, the Caribbean’s and Mexico. The game follows the Ghosts squad, consisting of Captain Elias Walker, his sons Logan and David, and their German Shepherd Riley. Together with two other members of the Ghosts squad, the Walkers are sent on a top-secret mission behind the enemy lines.ReceptionCall of Duty Ghosts received many positive reviews from critics and the players. The feature that was praised the most was the multiplayer, especially two new modes – Squads and Extinction. The campaign mode was also noted as providing a lot of variety and challenges, unlike the previous titles in the series, which tended to treat the single-player as an addition to the multiplayer mode. All in all, the game was received favorably, with a total of 19 million copies sold.
