Beyond: Two Souls is an interactive drama action-adventure PC game, developed by Quantic Dream. Directed by David Cage it is the spiritual successor to the previous titles of Quantic Dream studio, Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. Like these titles, Beyond: Two Souls focuses on the storytelling aspect, offering the player multiple choices as to how they want to lead the narration.The game tells the tale of Jodie Holmes, a young woman gifted with paranormal abilities, manifesting themselves as a being called Aiden. During combat sequences, the player decides on the direction in which the character moves, determining the outcome of the fight. Interacting with other characters is done through nonlinear dialogue options and choices. When playing as Aiden, the player is able to glide through the air and move through tight spaces. Like Jodie, Aiden can interact with in-game objects and NPCs. Depending on the color of the aura surrounding it, an object can be possessed (orange), strangled (red), moved around (blue) and healed (green)Ultrarealistic graphicsOne of the main features of Beyond: Two Souls is its life-like graphics. Just like in Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream decided to digitally recreate the faces of the actors portraying each of the characters. The effects of that are astounding: the main character Jodie looks exactly like Ellen Page and her mentor and caretaker Nathan Dawkins perfectly resembles Willem Dafoe. The graphics blur the line between what’s real and what isn’t, elevating the feeling that Beyond: Two Souls is more of an interactive movie experience rather than simply a video game.A story of two soulsThe story told in Beyond: Two Souls spans a decade in the life of the main character, Jodie Holmes. Since she could remember, Jodie was connected to Aiden, an incorporeal being, who protected her.
