Russian Orthodoxy Under the Old Regime

This book presents the findings of some recent research on an important but neglected topic, offering for scholarly consideration some new interpretations of Russian Orthodoxy (at least of several of that subject's many facets) during the imperial era, interpretations often at variance with frequently encountered stereotypes. It arranges most of these interpretive studies under the umbrella of two broad essays on Orthodoxy in imperial Russia, in order that both students and the general public may gain some sense of the nature and significane of the whole topic. All of the essays point out the rudimentary stage of development of our historical literature on Russian Orthodoxy.
